There are your typical asparagus plates and then there is this set of hand painted plates and matching platter, made by Limoges ca. 1920's. Definitely a different way of serving asparagus, but in Europe it is considered a specialty course unto itself and is served with a flair!
These can be also used as salad plates, for hors d'oeuvres or a cheese course. Notice the glass of wine painted on each plate, clearly a necessary part of the experience! The unusual shaped rims are highlighted in gold, framing the earthy tones of the subjects.
Spring is right around the corner, which means asparagus is not far behind.
Made in France, overall excellent condition, commensurate with age.
