This is a rare set of 12 hand-painted placecard holders depicting portraits of French royalty. These portraits are named on the back along with the Dresden mark. Each one is framed in a deep cobalt blue border, highlighted with raised paste gold in various motifs. These all fully decorated, emulating the Royal Vienna plates of similar subjects, all exquisitely painted with great detail and accuracy. Some of the named subjects include Marie Antoinette, Madame de Lebrun (she served as the portrait painter to Marie Antoinette, Vigée Marie Le Brun worked purely in Rococo style) and Madame de Montespan (who was the most celebrated maîtresse en titre of King Louis XIV of France, by whom she had seven children).Speaking of conversation starters, these place card holders will be the talk of the table as guests seat themselves with visions of palace banquets!
