This massive drum is extraordinary in its size and condition. The hoops and shell are close to perfect, the rope binding is excellent and the tension bands all in place. The shell is decorated with intricate inlays. One of the heads has a split but it is restorable. Obviously from Bangor, Maine, retaining the outer metal label engraved with the makers' name, Oliver Ditson, the major 19th c. instrument maker and music publisher. Looking through the air hole, there is also an original label afixed to the inside of the head.This would also make a perfect coffee table and already has a custom made triangular base to rest on-
