This complete 19th c. dessert service is hand painted in the Aesthetic Movement taste with vibrant flowers painted with polychrome enamels encircling the boldly positioned butterfly hovering the field with a blue sky above. The soft light green "Eau de Nile" border is highlighted with gold and each plate is subtly unique with different butterflies and flowers on each plate.The set included 12 dessert plates measuring 8 7/8"  in diameter and 2 footed compotes. The mark is only a pattern number indicating the approximate date of 1850-60's. Made in England, all in excellent condition commensurate with age.
