19th Century Porcelain Plaque with Hand-Painted Plaque by Turner

19th Century Porcelain Plaque with Hand-Painted Plaque by Turner

A rare and extraordinary large heart-shaped porcelain plaque is made by G. W. Turner, Tunstall, England dating from 1890s. The raised and molded border is a work of art unto itself with a soft Impressionistic palette with a jewel-like painting and a Romantic subject with beautiful detail. A woman is sitting in the foreground waiting for her sailor/lover to return home. The background is beautifully painted with a realistic seascape of sailboats. This unique piece is artist signed with the initials A.T.H. These are quite heavy and still retain the original wooden custom mount which is suitable for hanging. Ca. 1890
