Beautiful hand painted dessert set comprising 12 plates, each one unique. Beautiful shaped rims with four cobalt reserves decorated with raised gold butterflies and insects, highlighted with hand painted floral garlands and raised gold surrounding the central bird in scenic landscape. This is a copy of the famous "Mecklenberg Service" originally painted in 1850. The original Chelsea set, now in the Bow Room at Buckingham Palace, was presented by George lll to his brother in law, the Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, in 1763. The plates are 9" and the compote is 9" diameter and 5" high. The compote sits atop 3 scrolling feet with a hand painted central medallion on the base, all highlighted with gold and floral garlands. This set was made for Thomas Goode, London ca. 1910. 12 matching rimmed soup bowls are also available.
