An amazing hand painted example of the influence of the Japonesque influence on English wares ca. 1890's. This is a complete set of 8 footed cups and saucers and 8 matching dessert plates accompanied by a creamer and sugar/waste bowl set. The profuse all-over hand painted decoration is a dramatic example of the strong influence of the Imari palette both in porcelain and all of the major decorative arts including art glass, textiles, architecture etc. Bright and vibrant, this is perfect for display and filled with your favorite tea. The decoration completely covers the cups and sugar and creamer entirely which is a rare and special decorative technique. The cups measure 3.5" D x 3 1/8" T, the bowl is 5.75" D x 3.75" T, the saucers are 6" D x 7/8" T and the creamer is 5" T x 3.25" D.
Made in England ca 1890, attributed to Hammersley, all in excellent condition with minor gold rubbing on the foot of the cups. No structural defects!
