This is an amazing set of 12 rimmed soup bowls marked "Spode's New-Stone" dating to 1840 but in like new condition. The "Japonesque" transfer decoration is embellished with hand painted polychrome enamels in vibrant and bold colors, highlighted in gold. The Japanese Garden theme includes flowers, plants, Geishas and the border is beautifully decorated with a combination of flowers and patterns evocative of the upcoming "Aesthetic Movement" motif yet to arrive. The perfect size for soup, salad and desserts, these bowls will add a decorative element to many colors of china; cobalt blue, green, pinks and orange.
Made in England ca. 1840, all in excellent condition
