A rare and exceptional 19th c Minton dessert service featuring hand painted ornithological subjects painted in the Neoclassical period consisting of 10 dessert plates and 2 footed compotes. The centers depict different bird subjects, each in their natural environment of flowers, branches and botanically correct environment for each species. The rich turquoise bleu celeste borders in the Sevres Style are highlighted with a subtle shaped rim, deep purple enamels and raised beaded gold "jewels". Each border is further embellished with reserves of Neo-classical portraits and alternating banner shaped reserves, hand painted with classical subjects such as gardening, music and elements of nature. The pair of footed compotes are decorated both above and below and they rest on elaborate swirling bases, also enbellished with floral motif and portraits with the jeweled purple borders. 

These belong in a museum! Fantastic condition, rare subjects and the finest painting! Made in England, in excellent condition commensurate with age, minor rubbing in the white ground. Dated 1866!!
